"In good writing, words become one with things."
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
When I was a kid, one of the memories I have of my sister is her writing a journal every night before bed. "Writing a journal for fun? Why did you do that?" I asked once. "Writing a journal would help me to remember these days in the future," she responded. Since then, I have pondered her answer, many years have passed since that day, and I still remember those words.
Writing is a form of thinking and a unique perspective. Writing helps to express who we are and what is inside us and cannot be visible to others. Writing is more than just adding an event to a paper; it means preserving personal experiences and memories, which no one else can do for us. Differently, writing connects with ourselves because we can express what is in our minds without fear.
Over thousands of years, writing has helped human beings to communicate and to transmit their knowledge, language, stories, and beliefs from one generation to another one through different types of writing. It is hard to measure the impact and the amount of knowledge we have received through different periods from other parts of the world just through writing.
Years later, I received a beautiful notebook as a gift and found myself doing the same that my sister used to do before bed. I started writing a journal every night for weeks that turned into months and years. After journaling for a long time, nothing is more powerful and inspiring than reading your old experiences and feelings and seeing how much you have grown; that is my most personal experience until now.
Writing helped me to express my feelings and thoughts in a way that I couldn't do with someone during my adolescence. Now, I have learned how to love what others write, and I enjoy reading other people's experiences as much as I wanted to write mine own.
