"The Priceless Value of Education: Dynah Fuimaono's Dedication to Learning with BYU-Pathway

“I thought that I would never go back to school” - Dynah Fuimaono

Salt Lake City-born Dynah Fuimaono is an entrepreneur, a mother of nine, and a student enrolled in BYU-Pathway since 2017.

The priceless value of education

Dynah’s parents immigrated from Tonga in 1980 to the U.S., looking for a better future. Her family recognizes the significance of education, with her father emphasizing the importance of obtaining a degree. He encouraged all of his children to pursue higher education to avoid the struggles he faced, and his drive for education paid off, as five out of the seven siblings have graduated from BYU-Hawaii. Because of her family’s example, Dynah knew she had to continue her educational journey.

Educational journey

Dynah's journey to go back to school was a gradual process fueled by her family's support. Despite initially feeling that education was not for her, her brother and sister-in-law's involvement as BYU-Pathway Worldwide service missionaries sparked her interest. She decided to join the program with her husband, and they both completed their first year of courses in 2017. However, it wasn't until 2019, when her daughter attended Ensign College, that Dynah felt motivated to start with the BYU-Idaho online degree program through BYU-Pathway. She began with a certificate in entrepreneurship. Though the process has been challenging, Dynah's determination has brought her close to completing her journey. This demonstrates that there is always time to pursue your dreams, and the support of loved ones can make all the difference when challenges come.

Challenges along the way

Dynah's biggest challenge in pursuing her higher education is time management. Being a mother of nine, she has to prioritize her time to complete her homework. She and her husband work on their assignments together, and this has helped them both immensely.

As a consultant, she often has clients calling her late at night, and she has to balance her work commitments and studies. Despite the challenging schedule, Dynah persisted and often sacrificed sleep to finish assignments. When frustration or doubt crept in, she found solace in personal prayer and fasting, reminding herself that Heavenly Father had faith in her even when she did not.

Skills on action

Dynah’s journey with BYU-Pathway and her entrepreneurship certificate has helped her become a better entrepreneur, person, and leader. She now makes better decisions with clients and is more determined to accomplish her goals. This has helped her develop a deeper relationship with her Heavenly Father and His plan.

A grateful heart for BYU-Pathway

“BYU-Pathway has totally been an answer to many prayers. I know Heavenly Father loves all His children and wants them to succeed. It doesn't matter what we do — He will always be there to tell us that we can do it”, expressed Dynah.
