What are viral videos and why they matter?

A few months ago I started to create content for my own social media accounts and I have seen more viral videos than ever, after learning about them this is what they are and why matter in the social media platforms.


Viral videos are videos that spread rapidly through online sharing, typically through social media, email, or other online platforms. These videos often have unique, attention-grabbing content that appeals to a wide audience and generates a lot of interest and engagement.


Viral videos can take many different forms, including humorous skits, heartwarming stories, music videos, and more. They can be created by individuals, companies, or organizations, and they may be intentionally designed to go viral or may simply be a product of unexpected popularity.


The term "viral" refers to the way in which these videos quickly spread from person to person, much like a virus, through online sharing and word-of-mouth. Because viral videos can reach such a large and diverse audience, they can be a powerful tool for raising awareness about a cause or promoting a product or service.


Viral videos can be important for a number of reasons but here are the five most relevant:

  1. Increased exposure: When a video goes viral, it can be seen by millions of people within a matter of days or even hours. This can be an extremely effective way to increase exposure for a brand, cause, or individual.
